Penta Real Estate has lent one of its buildings – Bastion Florenc – for this year’s Designblok and has become part of the event’s program. And you might be wondering, what’s the point of that…
Penta Real Estate’s philosophy is to build new structures in a way that uplifts their surroundings and ensures that everyone involved can be proud of the results. Penta frequently constructs buildings on sites of long-abandoned industrial areas (64% of all their projects) and brings top-tier architecture to cities. We create with an emphasis on the environment, because we too want to live, create, and work here.
To do that, we need the best architects, but also other top professionals, including designers and artists.
We want to talk to them about their work and how they could beautify our buildings, both inside and out, as well as the public spaces around them, to make them places where people feel comfortable. We run open art competitions that have a professional organizer and an independent jury made up of curators, art experts, academics, city representatives, and even artists themselves. It’s an opportunity for both well-known names and new, undiscovered talent, as our projects are usually highly visible in prominent city-center locations.
Currently, there are three such competitions running – a new monument to General Kutlvašr, a legionnaire, war hero, and commander of the Prague Uprising, who faced imprisonment and persecution by the communist regime at the end of his life, will be erected at the site of the former Nuselský Brewery. New, interesting works of art will also appear in the Nová Waltrovka district in Prague 5 and in the publicly accessible atrium of The Cloud One hotel on Hybernská Street, which we completed this year.
