Ineke Hans: REX
Circuform gives industrially-designed furniture a circular life, re-releasing Ineke Hans’ 2011 design. The result is REX: a sustainable and fully-recyclable chair that can be returned against a guaranteed deposit of twenty euros. Such onward development of the very first Dutch “deposit chair” encourages a different style of consumption, one in which the object is not thrown away after (re)use, but returned. The returned chairs are checked, cleaned, repaired, and sold again. Broken chairs are broken down into the raw materials needed for new production. REX has already been acquired by several museums, including Vitra Design Museum, Museum Boijmans Rotterdam, and Design Museum Gent.
