Visitors can look forward to a record-breaking number of participants as well as new formats of the accompanying program, since the organizers prepared two international conferences, numerous lectures aimed at professionals in the field, workshops, and design trips to regions. Designblok will run from 17 to 21 October 2019.
Thanks to the support of the CzechTourism agency, visitors can this year also take off to the Czech regions: in the course of the festival, the Designblok special buses will take them to the 8smička gallery in Humpolec, the industrial space of the Coal Mill in Libčice nad Vltavou, and to the traditional glassworks Rückl, Bomma and Preciosa.
Fashion lovers will enjoy a wide array of installations by fashion designers and jewellery-makers in Openstudio.The catwalk will see the main stars of the fashion section – the Ukrainian artist Irina Dzhus and the fashion designer Tomász Armada from Poland. The fashion show by the acting 2018 Grand Designer, Tereza Rosalie Kladošová, will form part of the opening ceremony, and fifteen arriving young artists – finalists of the Diploma Selection competition and young talents from the Czech Republic – will present their fashion shows during the week.
The 2019 Designblok lays special emphasis on two international conferences as the main part of the accompanying program. The Future Conferencewill discuss how design can contribute to a higher-quality life in the future, and will host several significant figures – the gallery owner Rossana Orlandi, the publicist and the Vogue CS Editor-in-Chief, Andrea Běhounková, the climatologist Pavel Zahradníček, the UNICEF director Pavla Gomba, and the curator and director of the Museum of Applied Arts in Hamburg, Tulga Beyerle. The Vitra Conference:Desk Is Dead will focus on the future of work and on how the Swiss company approaches the development of office spaces. The speakers will be the Vitra CEO, Nora Fehlbaum, the British star designer, Jay Osgerby, and the director of the Czech Vitra branch, Jiří Zavadil.
